May 4, 2018 St. Mary's student leaders helped run the Lynn Catholic Schools "O-Lynn-pics". WELCOME MAY! St. Mary's students are beginning a busy month! With many spring sports games left, upcoming testing, and milestone events like prom and graduation, May is an exciting time at St. Mary's. This week, Lynn Catholic Schools, consisting of St. Mary's, Sacred Heart School and St. Pius V School, gathered at Manning Field for the annual "O-Lynn-pics" where middle school students competed across many different games for the trophy. LAW DAY On Thursday, May 3, AP US History students attended the Law Day program at Lynn Juvenile Court. Students heard about the roles of various persons working in the Juvenile Court system, including judges, probation officers, police officers, and child psychologists to name a few. The program also included an essay contest, won by Holly Doig (pictured fourth from left). From Left to right, (back), Mr. Ridley, Lauren Casey, Holly Doig, Jada Gutierrez, Brady Ryan, Alex Cattaneo, and Dante Cattaneo. Mady Hentosh, Mia DiBiasio, and Connor Mackey are pictured in front.
MASSACHUSETTS STATE GOVERNMENT DAY On April 6, Meaghan Murphy and Kyle Bernadini participated in Massachusetts Student Government Day at the State House. Students from 190 schools across the state participated in the day's activities, including mock debate on House Bill 2864, "An Act to Protect Youth from the Health Risks of Tobacco and Nicotine Addiction," and Senate Resolution 387 which would have called upon Congress to propose an amendment to abolish the Electoral College in favor of popular election of the President and Vice-President. Meaghan and Kyle were nominated and accompanied by Mr. Jalbert.
ALUMNUS AJ CAPANO '08 SPEAKS TO STUDENTS 2008 grad AJ Capano spoke with students as a part of the Greater Lynn Bar Association's Law Day celebration. AJ talked about the importance of the 14th Amendment in providing equal protection to all citizens and also spoke about the opportunities available in careers in law.
