LENTEN REFLECTION: FOURTH WEEK OF LENT

At St. Mary's one of our four Pillars is Catholic. Each Lent, we feature Lenten Reflections in order to focus on the Catholic Identity that is the thread to all facets of our school.

Please take a moment to read this week's Lenten Reflection by St. Mary's Associate Head of School, David J. Angeramo.

Lent is a time that encourages all of us to take a step back to re-examine our faith. The last few weeks have given me the opportunity to reflect on the importance my Catholic faith has played in my life. From my time as a young altar server at St. James in Salem, to being an officer at the Aquinas House (the Catholic Student Center at Dartmouth College), to my current role as Associate Head of School at St. Mary's – these and many other stages in my life have helped shape the person I am today. My faith has lead me to a life focused on serving God and others.

There is a reason that I came to St. Mary's. In my short time here, I have been able to grow in my faith and strive to have a positive influence on the members of our school community through my words and actions. As we all know, St. Mary's is a special place. Recently, I have been able to watch our sports teams compete in the state tournament, witness out Robotics team work collaboratively at their most recent competition, celebrate Ash Wednesday Mass with our entire school, pray with others in our weekly Lenten Morning Conversations, join student leaders in a Hunger for Justice planning meeting and build beds for the homeless with students from Rachel's Challenge. This is St. Mary's!

As we continue our Lenten journeys, I encourage everyone to make time each day to reflect on how we are living our lives. We are all in different places, but headed for the same goal. Are we repenting for our sins and being thankful for what we have? Are we making sacrifices and finding ways to support those in need? Are we all on a path to becoming the best versions of ourselves?

You have the prayers of the St. Mary's community during this important time of the year. Be sure to continue supporting each other and being true to St. Mary's pillars – Catholic, Excellence, Integrity and Respect.

ST. MARY'S WELCOMED MICHAEL PROCOPIO

Image

On Wednesday, March 27, St. Mary's Board Chair Bill Mosakowski and Glenn Morris '65 introduced Michael Procopio to the senior class. Michael is principal owner of his firm, The Procopio Companies, and currently holds the position of Vice President of Development.

Michael met with the students to speak about being you, but better, and to be who you were designed to be. Michael focused on four important keys to being a better you. 1. The intersection of passion and gift. 2. The power of association 3. The power of intentional living. 4. Faith: The foundation.

Among many inspiring words to our seniors, Procopio ended with the importance of integrity. "All you have is your integrity. You'll be faced with many challenges and what you do when other people aren't watching is up to you. Integrity is something that you control. It's yours. Own it." Thank you Michael Procopio for your time and wisdom to our soon to be college students!

ST. MARY'S ATHLETIC DIRECTOR JEFF NEWHALL '94

COLLEGE ACCEPTANCE OF THE WEEK

At St. Mary's, our college-preparatory curriculum yields amazing results for our students as they prepare for their next step. This week, we call attention to

Alex and Dante Cattaneo:

Image

St. Mary's seniors and twins Alex Cattaneo '19 and Dante Cattaneo '19 have yet to make a decision on where to attend college in the Fall among their numerous prestigious college acceptances. Alex and Dante Cattaneo are two out of many of St. Mary's highly competitive and exceptional students. They were among the highest achieving SAT scores out of the St. Mary's 2019 class with near perfect scores of 1580 and 1540.

Alex and Dante have been accepted to all the schools they've applied to including

Notre Dame, Boston College, Northeastern, Holy Cross, Providence College, Boston University, UMASS Amherst and Boston.

Neither Alex or Dante have made any final decisions about a declared major or where they would like to attend in Fall 2019. In fact, before they declare their next steps, they are both still waiting to hear from Dartmouth and Yale, then Alex is waiting to hear back from Harvard!

Congratulations!

A SPECIAL VISIT FROM ALUMNI

Image

On Tuesday, March 26, St. Mary's was visited by Maureen (Hossack) Carter '64, Godeleine (Gros) Allard '63 and Sharon (Daigle) Bloom '64. We were excited to see that Godeleine was dressed almost in complete adherence to her old St. Mary's uniform (only her shoes were out of uniform), she had converted her old jumper into a skirt and was still wearing her class ring.

In the summer of 1962, Godeleine came to St. Mary's from her home in France through the National Catholic Welfare Conference (NCWC), an organization that gave 40 scholarships to Europeans to take part in a Catholic based education in the United States. Godeleine was hosted by Sharon's family during her final year of high school; when they became close and lifelong friends.

Following their time at St. Mary's Godeleine and Sharon went on to become teachers while Maureen pursued a career in accounting. Although they have retired, you can visit Godeleine who volunteers her time giving tours at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France.
