May 17, 2019 ST. MARY'S INAUGURAL GROUP OF GARRITY SCHOLARS WITH HEAD OF SCHOOL DR. JOHN F. DOLAN AND MSGR. PAUL GARRITY. CELEBRATING OUR FUTURE
On Tuesday, May 14, St. Mary's held a special dinner for the inaugural group of Garrity Scholars. "What a fine group of students we have here," said Head of School Dr. John F. Dolan. Dr. Dolan continued to point out that "these students will change the world."
The Garrity Scholars attended dinner with their parents, trustees, faculty and staff in the William J. & Teresa G. Connell Memorial Library for a blessing with Fr. Brian Flynn and dinner. After dinner, Dr. Dolan and Msgr. Garrity shared words regarding the Garrity Scholars program and what it means to be a Garrity Scholar today and in the future.
The 12 inaugural Garrity Scholars competed among a competitive group of 103 applicants from across the north shore for a four-year, full tuition scholarship to St. Mary's High School. Congratulations to the entering cohort! Stay tuned next week for more details on our winners.
All the students met and spoke with Msgr. Garrity, for whom the scholars program is named. Msgr. Garrity was the pastor for 18 years at St. Mary's Parish in Lynn with responsibility for St. Mary's Marian Division and High School. Under his leadership, St. Mary's Lynn was transformed and took its rightful place as one of the premier Catholic high schools in the north shore region. Monsignor Garrity is a storied and revered figure in the St. Mary's community.
The Garrity scholars are bright students full of leadership qualities. They are models of integrity, honesty, openness to difference, new ideas and most importantly their undeniable sense of community. Board Vice Chair Dr. Elizabeth Molloy Twomey '52 closed the night with heartfelt words.

COLLEGE ACCEPTANCE OF THE WEEK At St. Mary's, our college-preparatory curriculum yields amazing results for our students as they prepare for their next step. This week, we call attention to CJ Fusco, Mia DiBiasio and Ashley Sullivan:
Senior CJ Fusco (left) has a passion for flying and has been taking lessons at Beverly Regional Airport since age 13. CJ always knew he wanted to pursue studying Aviation in college. February 22, 2019, CJ obtained his private pilot license after five years of training and later that month received his acceptance to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona. He is looking forward to studying aeronautical science and business as an Embry-Riddle Eagle in the Fall of 2019. Looking forward, CJ plans to join the ROTC and eventually be commissioned as an Air Force officer. Fusco was also accepted into Bridgewater State University.
Senior Mia DiBiasio (middle) had many options between her acceptances to Assumption College, UMass Amherst, University of Connecticut, St. John's University, Bryant University, Bentley University, Suffolk University and Xavier University. Mia was granted the "Light the Way" Scholarship from Assumption College and Provosts Scholarship from Bentley. Mia is a well rounded student and enjoys participating in many extra curricular activities. After some thought, Mia found Bentley to be the best fit for her to take her next steps. This fall at Bentley University, Mia is looking forward to partaking in student government, sorority life, intramural sports, and women's leadership building. She is still deciding between between actuarial science or accounting as a major.
Senior Ashley Sullivan (left) has been accepted into numerous schools such as University of New Hampshire, Merrimack College, Salve Regina University, Stonehill College, Southern New Hampshire University and UMass Boston. Her next step this Fall 2019 is to attend what was her top choice school Salve Regina University. Where Ashley plans to study business.
Congratulations!
