It has been an exciting week to be a Spartan!
Msgr. Garrity had lunch with the first cohort of St. Mary's Garrity Scholars and discussed leadership. Margot Connell visited campus to meet the William F. Connell '55 Service Award student recipients and view the ongoing construction of the new building.
On Friday the final steel beam was placed to top off the new STEM & Gateway Building. Students, faculty, staff and friends cheered as they watched the final steel beam be lifted from the ground into place of the new STEM and Gateway building.

SPARTAN NEWS BUILDING FUTURES TOPPING CEREMONY St. Mary's Board Chair Bill Mosakoswki, Vice Chair Betty Twomey '52, Pat DeIulis and Mayor Thomas McGee, joined with students, faculty and administration for a blessing led by Fr. Brian and to sign the beam which was decorated with Spartan Pride by Mrs. Richard's art class. Watch the live stream on our Facebook page of the raising of the beam!

A SPECIAL GUEST St. Mary's welcomed Margot Connell and Frank Doyle to visit the site of the new STEM & Gateway Building that is under construction on campus, learn more about the future of St. Mary's and meet with the 2019 Connell Student Scholarship recipients. Margot's late husband, William F. Connell '55 was instrumental to the success of St. Mary's and we are blessed to have Margot continue to be part of St. Mary's community.
GARRITY LUNCHEON Former pastor of St. Mary's Lynn, Msgr. Paul Garrity returned to campus to visit the first class of Garrity Scholars. The Garrity Scholarship, a competitive four year, full tuition academic scholarship was established in honor of Msgr. Garrity.
EMMANUEL COLLEGE VISIT Director of External Affairs Jamie Gigliotti visited with St. Mary's alumna and President of Emmanuel College, Sister Janet Eisner '58.
THE 12TH ANNUAL JAMES OTIS LECTURE St. Mary's Junior AP US History class attended the 12th Annual James Otis Lecture at Faneuil Hall. They were led by Mike Jalbert and Lindsay Lockwood. The program was entitled: "Reconstruction: The Failure of Law and Its Enduring Consequences." The 2019 program was especially important and timely given the current social climate.
The lecture addressed the missed opportunities to develop a truly equal society, the failures of Reconstruction, and the ramifications that still impact our country. Charles Lane of the Washington Post, Professor James Stewart of Macalester and Professor Heather Cox Richardson of Boston College were the speakers.

SPARTAN PRIDE St. Mary's Marian Division had their teaching Mass. Fr. Brian, Mr. McDuffee and Campus Ministry reviewed and explained in detail each part of Holy Mass to the students. St. Mary's cross country team had their car wash fundraiser last week!
