October 23, 2020 St. Mary's New STEM and Gateway Building STEM AND GATEWAY BUILDING IS OPEN FOR LEARNING
October 19, 2020 marked a historic day in St. Mary's 139 year history. On Monday, the Spartans started their school day with a grateful heart and the opening day of the brand new STEM and Gateway building.
The energy on campus was palpable and the enthusiasm carried on throughout the week. Our new STEM labs were in full use. Students have already begun creating, building and working hard in their classes.
Everyone was excited to be part of this meaningful time. We are happy to provide this unique and progressive experience to our students today and for our future Spartans. Motivation is the theme among our students this week.
Please enjoy the video from our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and a highlight reel of our first day of learning on our Building Futures page.
This week also included a special visit to celebrate STEM week from the Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts Karyn Polito. Please continue below to read more.

The new front door of St. Mary's is certainly eye-catching when turning onto Tremont Street. Our Atrium is bright while welcoming our students and community. In addition, the main office, administration and guidance department have relocated their offices into the new building as well. What a remarkable time to be a Spartan!
STEM WEEK AT ST. MARY'S The Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts Karyn Polito virtually visited St. Mary's on Thursday, October 22 in celebration of STEM Week and the opening of our new STEM building. The Lt. Governor received a highlight video of the new STEM building and then a building presentation, which included academic design and the vision for the new STEM Facility.
The virtual visit then transitioned to the actual STEM classrooms where the Lt. Governor was able to witness first hand, our students engaging in STEM projects. First, we visited the classroom of Diane Haas St. Mary's Science Dept. Chair. Students were performing a Biology experiment using chromatography to determine the color pigments they'll find in these green leaves.
Second stop was with a Chemistry classroom taught by Dr. John Oldham. Dr. Oldham demonstrated a chemical reaction caused by the electron configuration.
